Our Balm of Gilead is made from the buds of black cottonwood trees, picked in the early spring when the resin is ripe and sticky.
Cottonwood resin contains salicin, which the body converts to salicylic acid (the main compound in aspirin). Salicin has proven anti-inflammatory properties and has been used medicinally by humans since biblical times.
